Children's Programming Ideas
The Kentucky Historical Society has organized a detailed list of children’s activities that can take place at your library during the month of Lincoln’s birthday and during the entire Bicentennial period, which runs through February 2010.
These activities are manageable and field tested, and can easily be organized within a limited budget and staff. Programming ideas include activities pertaining to:
• Lincoln the Farmer: an activity tied in to Lincoln's Kentucky childhood • Lincoln the Learner: an activity related to Lincoln's early education in Kentucky • Mary Todd—Needleworker: programming related to Mary Todd’s Kentucky upbringing • Fun With the Lincoln Boys: games the Lincoln family were likely to play • Tea Time With the Lincolns: activities based on manuals Mary Todd Lincoln owned • Photo Albums and Scrapbooks • Lincoln Lotto, a game successfully test-marketed at the 2008 Kentucky State Fair • Lincoln Pick Up Logs, another game successfully test-marketed at the State Fair • Mary Todd Lincoln Word Find
Additional activities for children’s programs based on the frontier, Mary Todd, and the Lincoln family are also included, as are helpful Web sites that pertain to children’s programs. Questions about these games can be directed to Vicky Middleswarth.
