Kentucky's Bicentennial Celebration of Abraham Lincoln

Educational Resources

Lincoln-related educational resources are being developed for teachers, students, and adults across the commonwealth during the Lincoln Bicentennial.

Kentucky Abraham Lincoln School Toolkit
The Lincoln School Toolkit, a set of resources designed to make Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday a statewide educational opportunity for students, is now available. The toolkits include lesson plans, primary source materials, video resources, and a Lincoln learning resource sheet.  All materials are tied to Kentucky standards.

Kentucky Historical Society Resources

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) is an active partner in the Lincoln Bicentennial Commemoration. KHS is the administrator of the Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, providing administrative and budgetary oversight, public relations and marketing support, and coordinating research and activities statewide.

KHS-related Lincoln programs and services include:

Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln Facts  -- 60 short essays on Lincoln’s Kentucky connections, one of which was presented each day of the 2008 General Assembly session. They are also published and distributed online as resources for the general public.

Development of a major traveling exhibition, Beyond the Log Cabin: Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln, which premieres at KHS on October 20, 2008, and travels to two other venues within the commonwealth in 2009. Educational programming associated with the exhibition will include new works produced through KHS's museum theatre program, a new Web site, and teacher materials.

A new HistoryMobile exhibit, “Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln,” which began its statewide tour February 12, 2008.

A portable Museums-to-Go exhibit on Lincoln will be featured at Kentucky’s Lincoln sites, and additional copies are available for community venues throughout the state. To get more information about booking a Lincoln Museums-to-Go exhibit for your location, contact Warren Greer at (502) 564-1792 ext 4478 or at warren.greer@ky.gov.

The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society, a quarterly academic journal, will focus on Lincoln.

KHS partnered with KET to create "Lincoln: I, Too, Am a Kentuckian," A Kentucky Life Special featuring Dave Shuffet, that discusses Kentucky’s influence on Abraham Lincoln.

KHS is a partner with the Kentucky Heritage Council, Kentucky Department of Tourism, and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in launching the Kentucky Lincoln Heritage Trail.

KHS is working with the Louisville Waterfront Development Corporation to create a new state memorial to Abraham Lincoln. To learn more about the project, visit www.edhamiltonworks.com.
